How Our Classes Run

Anne Giving GuidanceOur classes which are taught by Anne are designed with both the beginner and improver in mind. So if you’ve not painted before or at least not for some time (maybe it was back at school or college) you should be fine to come along and join in the fun!

We keep the numbers attending low, only twelve to a session, as this gives everyone time and space to work and means that Anne can help each person in the group.

Ware ClassSo what goes on? Anne approaches each session by first demonstrating how to tackle the class’s subject. Then you get the chance to have a go yourself. For more involved subjects Anne will break things down into stages to ease you through the work. At the end of each session you should have a completed painting to take home.

Anne chooses a variety of subjects for the classes sometimes painting from a photograph while other subjects are taken from life. Still life items are often brought in by those attending the class – we had great fun with musical instruments and old garden implements. Although everyone is here to learn we don’t take things too seriously and always aim for a fun time.  If you would like at look at some of the topics we have tackled have a look at these galleries.

Palette, Water Pot and BrushesOn the subject of materials, unlike other art courses we do not ask you to buy a long list of expensive items. Instead we provide you with everything that you will need. This means that everyone is using the same materials and that makes it a great deal easier to follow along with Anne.

So if you feel like coming along what do you do? As we said we limit the number attending each class to twelve this means that places must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment on the day. To book a place contact us via the form on this website, email Anne on or give us a call on 01438 318398 (we have an answerphone). Payment is on the day (cash please as we are unable to take cards).

The sessions last for 2½ hours and there is always a break for free tea and coffee and the all important custard cream or maybe chocolate bourbon.

Occasionally we run all-day workshops for subjects that take longer to complete. These workshops are mainly suitable for those who may be a little bit more advanced. Lunch is not included but tea, coffee and biscuits are available all-day.

To find out what is happening and when keep an eye on this website or email Anne at or via this form and ask her to notify you when the details are published.
